Awesome grinders. The steak bomb is just amazing and every time we end up visiting Yale New Haven hospital we stopped by to grab one.
Also the baklava is very well done. Not too much syrup, crispy filo dough and NO cloves. Probably our favorite in this area. -

I stopped by La Vero for a casual dinner with friends on Thurs. evening. Despite working right across the street, I'd never stopped in because I usually pack my lunch, and when I don't, I usually hit the food trucks on Cedar St. My friend's suggestion that we meet there finally gave me an opportunity to stop by, so I was curious to see how their pizza compared to the many other pizza places I've tried around town.
In the interest of keeping things simple and having a basis of comparison, I ordered two slices: one of margherita and one of plain cheese ($5.50 together). The slices were quite large in size, and the crust was of medium thickness. The margherita pizza, which wasn't entirely true to its name, consisted of a white slice topped with sliced tomatoes and fresh basil. As is typical in CT during winter, the tomatoes were rather flavorless, and the basil also didn't add much in flavor, either. The main flavor was that of the cheese and garlic, which was savory but one-dimensional. The cheese pizza was pretty nondescript--the sauce had a slight sweetness, and the cheese was rather greasy. Together, the slices were filling, but both were pretty mediocre, esp. for New Haven.
While La Vero hits the spot if you have a pizza craving, it certainly isn't worth going out of your way for. It's more of a takeout spot than a restaurant--though there are tables, the decor is pretty bare-bones, even for a pizzeria. The quality is on par with that of several other nearby parlors (Est Est Est, Yorkside, Alpha Delta), but nowhere near that of the Big Four (BAR, Pepe's, Sally's, Modern). However, it's the nearest pizza place to the med school and hospital, and none of the food carts serve pizza, so they have a corner on the market. -

A special place because the food is delicious and the staff is kind and courteous . There are only a few pizza places in New Haven county that has great food without the attitude . This place is one of them .
Alex and Mimo always treat the customer with dignity and respect.
They truly appreciate the customer This place is more than just pizza
they have great salads and meals . -

Pizza was ok. A little too doughy for my taste, and there was too much cheese in the middle. Flavors were decent. The chocolate cake was frozen. Delivery was on time. Not the best, but willing to give another shot and get something other than pizza.

A fabulous place full of my memory.
Two years. It is the length of graduate program at Yale. You just blinked the eyes and then you graduated.
La Vero. It is not the best place from appearance; its environment even a little shabby.
Pizza slices are just ok, I would prefer order the whole pizza, which is freshly baked. The just-out-of-oven pizza has melting cheese dripping grease, and it is very delicious, though I am not going to compare it to those famous pizzarias in NH. Subs and salads are all yummy.
